Greetings WESTOP:

As I begin my term of office, I am honored and excited to serve as the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel (WESTOP) President for 2021-2022.

I want to commend Dr. Kimberly Williams for her leadership as WESTOP President. Even though we have been dealing with the pandemic, her leadership never faltered. I look forward to continuing to work with Past-President Williams and have her as an advisor and friend. I also want to thank the 2020-2021 Board of Directors and Service Council for stepping up and remaining committed to the oath of office we took in Anaheim. This work could not be done without your commitment and dedication.

I am pleased to start my term with a dedicated group of Chapter Presidents. I had the chance to connect with most of them, and I am excited about what they have planned this year. Similarly, our Service Council members are ready to start their work. They plan great events and activities to align with the Mission of WESTOP and help our members in their continued professional development.  We have several events planned this year that will continue to discuss the impact of the Pandemic and how we move from a virtual to an in person-environment.  We know this will be a slow process, but we will be a resource for our members as they adapt to the new normal.

This year we are planning to host our 44th annual conference in Kona, Hawaii, in person with select sessions to be streamed for members who cannot attend. I am excited to have Dr. Norma Romero and Romeo Garcia serve as conference co-chairs. They both hit the ground running and are in the process of planning a great conference.

I wanted you all to get the chance to meet the new Board and Service Council members.  Please click here to learn more about our BD and SC and their goals for the year.

Finally, I am available, and I invite you to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have during this year. My email address is

I look forward to being able to interact with each of you throughout the year.
